The southern Turkish resort and province of Antalya continues to gain in popularity, according to recent statistics that show the number of overseas tourists visiting the area rose by 7.59 per cent in the first 11 months of 2013 compare to last year.
A total of 11.4 million tourists came to Antalya between January and November, compared with 10.5 million in 2012. This increase is good news for the local property market in the region.
Russians now make up the largest group of foreigners visiting Antalya, specifically 3.3 million in the first 11 months of 2013. The second most numerous are Germans, who totalled 2.7 million, and other nationalities in the top five included Dutch, British, the Ukrainian.
Antalya city is popular with investors or expats who enjoy city life. New complexes near the beach and not far from the centre of town, in districts such as Konyaalti, are popular places to own apartments which let easily. Outside of the city, other resorts in the region include Side and Alanya, each offering sandy beaches and tourist facilities, as well as Turkey’s golfing hub Belek.
Antalya Airport is Turkey’s second busiest airport. Almost 25 million passengers were handled at Antalya during 2012, slightly less than in the preceding year. International traffic dominates in Antalya and constituted to 80 per cent of overall traffic at the airport last year. During August 2013 alone though, the two largest country markets from Antalya were Turkey and Germany, which combined accounted for 66.5 per cent of the airports weekly seats. The UK was third after Germany.
