Belek is really shaping up to become one of the biggest stories and success stories in the history of Turkish property, and in fact is already taking its place as such. The UK national paper The Daily Mail ran a story saying that Belek had the potential to become the next Algarve. Belek has been built as a golf resort town and the whole experience is tailored around the sport, and what people who play the sport are looking for in a coastal holiday destination. Some of the best golf courses are in Belek, and further courses are planned for the resort. More importantly the courses are on a par with those in Europe’s more established destinations says top amateur golfers. Belek’s courses are on a par with the major courses on the Algarve, but far cheaper to play on and set alongside well-maintained beaches. High praise indeed and they should know. As much as Belek is world renowned for its championship golf courses there is much more to Belek than golf alone. It is an ideal location for all it has its own unique charm which distinguishes itself from other regions in Turkey. For the sporty it’s not only golf which tourists can partake in there are tennis courts, some are floodlit and horse riding is a firm favourite either along the beach or along mountain trails through pine forests. Why not try your hand at sailing or windsurfing, perhaps even water skiing? There are plenty of other water sports and even leisurely boat trips, football, gyms and even a spa to soothe your aching muscles. Fancy a swim with the dolphins? Or spend the day at the local water parks.

There has been rapid growth in this area within the last 15 years and golf tourists to Belek are now similar in numbers to the golfers who visit the Algarve in Portugal. It is also said that if staying in Belek in February and March, you can ski in the morning and swim in the Med in the afternoon as the Saklikent skiing centre is only 1.5 hours away from the resort! For shopping, Belek’s centre has excellent restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shops with souvenirs, including leather goods and jewellery.
