The village of Üzümlü has retained its traditional Turkish charm and is one of Turkey’s spectacular natural beauty sites, set in a valley surrounded by dense pine forest and rugged hillsides it’s located in the foothills of the Taurus Mountains just 18km around 20 minutes away from popular Fethiye and Calis. With beautiful panoramic views of the mountains in the summer and winter months and during the winter they are often snow capped.
This small quiet village is a wonderful place to get away from it all, to kick back and relax and enjoy lush green surroundings. You will see charming villas and house dotted throughout the hillside and all have amazing clear uninterrupted views. It’s a perfect location and Dalaman International airport is only 1 hour away.
Üzümlü translated means “place of grape” and as it is surrounded by vineyards it’s obviously known for its wine production. You can visit Cadianda which is close by and see the ancient Roman site and Lycian city, meander around the ruins of the amphitheatre, stadium, baths and temple to soak up the atmosphere. At 500m above sea level, even the summer temperatures are cool and not as humid as other coastal resorts in the near by area.
All the essential shops you need can be found in the square such as the bakery, butcher, market and post office and not forgetting the weekly Friday market to buy all your fresh local produce. There are bars and restaurants but not as many as you would find in a tourist resort, nightlife is low key here as it should be.
The hub of village life is found in the square with shops set amongst some beautiful Ottoman houses. Small lanes off the square lead you into all kinds of directions and here you will possibly see the local woman sitting outside their homes weaving pure cotton. Üzümlü is a working village and the locals rely heavily on visitors buying their wares, the locals use the land to make their living producing olive oil, tobacco, figs, wine, grape juice and vinegar. There are fields of cotton, wheat, barley, vegetables, fruit and vines producing an abundant variety of grapes all being transported usually by donkey!

If the peace and quiet become too much hop on the Dolmus (local bus service) and within 20 minutes you will find yourself in Fethiye.
