Turkey offers the best value holidays for 2018
Where offers the best value holiday for 2018? Simple answer is Turkey and that’s not just me saying it! In recent days the Post Office Travel Money annual barometer report shows that two resorts in Turkey are the cheapest destinations in Europe for a summer holiday this year.
If you need to keep costs down this year, head to either Antalya or Marmaris on Turkey’s glorious coastline for the most affordable holiday – and I would add don’t think cheap and cheerful because it isn’t. Both Antalya and Marmaris are fantastic resorts which offer fabulous beaches, cafes, restaurants and bars and a mix of nightlife. You will have sunshine galore and the exchange rate from GBP to TL is very attractive now at today’s rate of 5.69 which makes your money go far!
The value Turkey offers as a holiday destination for tourists from the UK is inviting indeed as the package price and the costs one will spend in the resorts. It’s reported that for lunch and dinner for 1 week in Marmaris will cost around £287 and if you compare that to 1 week in Sorrento for lunch and dinner the cost will more than double. Blue Flag beaches are a massive draw for everyone visiting a resort but more so for families and OTA On the Beach discovered that Antalya offers the best value in Europe for Blue Flag beach resorts (which is amazing as Antalya is on the Mediterranean) for just £122 per week for a holiday for two people on a self catering basis.
The cheapest beach resort is in Bulgaria but following closely behind is Marmaris and this offers the very best in what you would expect to spend in the resort itself. The Post Office Travel Money said “UK holidaymakers are benefiting from the pound’s rise against the Turkish Lira in the past year, which has cut in-resort costs in Marmaris by 20% to £57 for a basket of items”. Andrew Brown, from Post Office Travel Money, said: “This may well be the year when it will pay to plan a trip outside the Euro zone. There have already been reports of growing demand for Turkey as low-priced packages attract cash-conscious UK holidaymakers.”
The Marketing Director for On the Beach Alan Harding commented that Turkey is particularly attractive to UK holiday makers who want value for money holidays adding that its 194 Blue Flag beaches are a massive draw and they are ideally close to Antalya. He also went on to add “While Spain has more Blue Flag beaches than any other country overall, Antalya and its surrounding resorts, such as Belek and Side is home to more Blue Flag beaches than any other single destination and offers phenomenal value in terms of accommodation,” added Harding.
Antalya has beaten the likes of the Algarve in Portugal, the Costa Blanca in Spain, Cyprus and Majorca for the best value destination in Europe with a high number of Blue Flag beaches.
Costa Blanca 62
Its also been confirmed by Post Office Travel Money that prices in the Euro zone are increasing and 11 out of the 13 Euro zone destinations, prices have increased compared to 2017. The two zones with no increases so far are Crete and Nice and the Algarve which is a firm favourite as a holiday destination has seen a rise of 17% for spending costs in a resort with the Costa del Sol costs slightly more expensive. The Italian resort of Sorrento is the most expensive destination for resort costs which is no surprise with Ibiza closely following and Majorca is proving to be staggeringly more expensive than resort costs in the Costa del Sol.
Andrew Brown, from Post Office Travel Money, also added to his statement “The cost of eating out is always a big consideration for holidaymakers and this year we found meal costs in Bulgaria and Marmaris are significantly lower than in any of the Euro zone resorts surveyed.” “On a week’s holiday, the cost of lunch and dinner ranges from £243 in Bulgaria and £287 in Marmaris to well over twice as much in Sorrento. That’s why it will pay to do your homework before booking to find a resort that fits your budget.”
Flights to destinations across Turkey are less than 4 hours from the UK and are frequent during the season. We have seen the major airline tour operators adding thousands of flights and new routes to their summer programmes for Turkey in 2018. I’m looking forward to a fantastic, sizzling summer in Turkey this year – are you?
