Highlighting the popularity of glamorous Bodrum amongst the world’s celebrities, British radio DJ and former fashion model Lisa Snowdon – also an ex of Hollywood super-star George Clooney – chose the resort for a holiday this month. And Lisa broadcast that she was in Turkey, thanks to the pictures of herself she posted on Twitter!
Bodrum is a regular haunt for global celebrities. Jade Jagger is a regular at the resort and even designed her first restaurant there, namely The Secret Garden at the Halikarnas Club, known throughout Turkey and where Dustin Hoffman is said to have once hosted a party. Before that, Jade’s father Mick used to rub shoulders there with the likes of Princess Margaret and Michael Caine. Today Bodrum’s bay and marina also attract super yachts – billionaire Abramovich has been known to drop anchor there and is a big fan of Bodrum.
Not far from Bodrum town, just a short drive around the peninsula, are the chic former fishing harbours of Gumusluk and Yalikavak, the latter with its smart new marina. Also favourites with the jet set, development in each has been controlled, keeping a level of exclusivity. The Bodrum area has history too, and is famous for having one of the seven wonders of the ancient World, namely The Mausoleum, and being the site where Cleopatra and Mark Antony used to stay en route to Rome during Roman times.
Needless to say, Bodrum and its environs are home to some of the most desirable properties in Turkey, where homes range from affordable apartments to luxury £1million-plus villas with stunning views and a private infinity pool.
