As the summer season is already upon us, all the popular holiday resorts are number crunching to see how many foreign visitors and holiday makers are passing through their airports. It is really no surprise to learn that Antalya is steaming ahead with recent figures released showing that they are nearing 3 million visitors coming through both Antalya and Gazipasa airports (up to 28th May). This is record numbers and the last time Antalya saw that many visitors at the same time of year was back in 2014.
An expected target of 14 million foreign tourists was set for Antalya in 2018 and as they have already reached 2,686,441 they are on course to meet their 14 million target. There has been an increase of 2,651 up to May 2018 compared to the same time in 2014. The figures for this May has shown a whopping 47% increase of tourists coming through Antalya and Gazipasa airports compared to May 2017.
Turkey has worked hard to promote their tourism industry this year after the lull in tourists wanting to visit Turkey for the last couple of years. The failed attempted coup in July 2016 and a number of terrorist attacks throughout the world made tourists stay closer to home rather than travel. However 2018 has seen Turkey finally, well and truly back on the map with increased flights and new destinations from the top leading airline companies and the cruise liners have retuned to the top ports.
The local authorities in particular have played a major part in promoting Antalya tourism by way of international exhibitions which have heavily promoted Antalya and all it has to offer. Russians like to holiday in Turkey and 5.5 million Russian tourists are expected in 2018 with many opting for Antalya. German visitors to Antalya are expected to increase by 20% in 2018 and 3 million British tourists will visit Turkey this year and its hoping they will arrive in record numbers.
One reason the tourism industry think more Brits are wanting to holiday in Antalya is due to the championship golf course there. Belek is known as the golfing capital of Turkey and is famous for luring avid golfers for golfing holidays throughout the year. Belek is just 30 minutes from Antalya Airport and it’s said that Belek is now rivalling Portugal in the golfing stakes.
