That is and isn’t a difficult question to answer, Turkey has 8000km of natural beautiful beach coastline that stretches from the Aegean to the Mediterranean, each beach stunning in its own right. However, each resort is different some suitable for families, some for couples and others for groups of friends. So, I guess the question needs breaking down in to categories of what you are looking for in a beach holiday.
Families – family friendly resorts usually have Blue Flag beaches nearby these are clean, safe beaches for the little ones with lots of powdery sand ideal for children to play and calm shallow waters is another attraction. Another must is sunbeds with umbrellas where children can take shade from the mid day sun and have a nap. Cafes, bars and restaurants that offer a good children’s menu is a plus (as we all know tots can be fussy eaters) and good facilities such as clean baby changing rooms and toilets are essential. There are many great family friendly resorts across Turkey and the Aegean coast is a favourite as it’s not as humid as the Med, there is a gentle breeze along this coastline and the weather is a little cooler with the average temperature during the main summer months being around 28°C. Popular resorts here are the Bodrum Peninsular, Altinkum, Kusadasi and Fethiye they all cater for families and have a superb range of amenities for them.
Couples – usually look for somewhere picturesque and relaxing where they can chill on a beautiful beach in the comfort of a cabana sipping on a cool refreshing drink and letting the sun warm their bodies. They want white sandy beaches and inviting crystal clear waters where if they wish can partake in a spot of water sports with nothing to worry about except themselves. Palm fringed bays with lush mountain backdrops offer a romantic setting along with fabulous shops that line the promenades with trendy cafes, bars and restaurants and cater more for couples and groups of friends. Lovely marinas are filled with fabulous boats and yachts and offer gourmet dinners by candlelight. Soft music fills the air and slow dancing is the perfect ending to a glorious day. These resorts tend to be more upmarket and you will pay a little more but it’s worth it. Both the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts have resorts that fit the bill, such as Bodrum, Olu Deniz and Kalkan, along the Mediterranean coast temperatures can reach in excess of 30°C and beyond during the summer months.
Groups of friends – want excitement and they can have it in Turkey, vibrant and upbeat resorts offer everything a lively crowd look for. Great beaches with live music and bars where you can play volleyball or head off on a Jet Ski or banana boat ride, look for the resorts with good surfing and you will find a wide range of water sports. These beaches and resorts are ideal for the young and beautiful wanting a fun packed holiday with plenty of shopping too. There is a good selection of restaurants offering local and international cuisine but the emphasis is based on nightlife and dancing. Clubs offer diverse music with cocktails and shots on offer tempting you in to dance the night away and many of the nightclubs are open air. Across the Aegean and Med there are resorts that cater for young single adults and give the ultimate holiday experience. Head to Bodrum, Alanya and Antalya which are the favourite destinations for a party atmosphere and you won’t be disappointed.
You have no doubt noticed that Bodrum features in each category, that’s because Bodrum offers diversity and is great for everyone. It’s ideally located close to Bodrum airport and is a mere 30 minute’s transfer, with gorgeous beaches, marinas, a castle and designer shopping. Super cafes, bars and restaurants serve everything from rustic local dishes to international cuisine to al la carte menus, catering for families, offering a cosy and romantic atmosphere to grabbing dinner with friend’s vibe.
